Tips to Nail Your Virtual Interview

We’re really pleased that you’re interested in working with us. So that we can get to know you better, you may be invited to a virtual interview.

We know that interviews can be nerve-wracking: although a virtual interview is different to meeting your interviewers face to face, we treat virtual interviews just the same as in-person and want to help your virtual interview experience run as smoothly as possible.

Here are our top tips to help you prepare and make a good impression.

Read the emails from us carefully

We will send important information to you about how to sign into your virtual interview. You’ll need to review these instructions prior to your interview so you can fully understand the process. You’ll also receive instructions on how to use our video meeting platform, Microsoft Office Teams. Make sure to test that Microsoft Teams is working before the start of your first interview.

Check your computer and internet speeds

Test your internet connection to ensure its strong and working. You could test this using a video chat app like Zoom with a friend before your interview day. Make sure to check that your webcam works properly too, and on the day of your interview, make sure your computer is plugged in so there is enough charge for the duration of the interview.

Choose the right surroundings

We want to concentrate on you, and not be distracted by what’s going on in the background: choose a suitable spot for your interview that’s well-lit and quiet.

Dress to impress!

Like all interviews, this is your opportunity to make a great first impression. Dress professionally like you would to an interview in person, even if it’s from the comfort of your own home!

Treat it like any other interview

Do your research and come prepared: study the job description and show how your skills align to each requirement of the role. Show your passion and be ready to answer questions about what interests you about working with us and why you want the position. Don’t forget to prepare questions of your own - as you are not visiting our offices in person, you may want to ask about the team dynamics and how they stay connected.

Be yourself!

Relax and let your personality and skills shine! Remember to make eye contact by looking directly into the camera and show your enthusiasm through your body language — lean in and be mindful not to cross your arms.

We hope that following these virtual interview tips will help you prepare and be successful.

Good luck!
