About The Role

We are a growing and innovative FinTech business with excellent PHP opportunities available.

We are creating a development capability to sit alongside our open source teams within our 30 strong production team and offering PHP Engineers the opportunity to build bespoke cross-platform and cross-business software. 

This is an excellent opportunity to support our digital transformation and influence the way we deliver software: the role will suit talented individuals who want to be part of a technology driven business and work with innovative systems and technologies such as AWS, DevOps, React, Azure etc. 

The role will suit someone with an enterprising attitude to join our highly Agile fintech team, who is seeking work life balance too.
 
Previous leadership experience, providing leadership across strategy and roadmap development, delivery technical resources and program resources is a must.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure all applications adhere to security policies and best practice
  • Ensure that code used on sites are functioning correctly 
  • Facilitate bug triage with Product Owners and Testers for newly delivered solutions during warranty
  • Facilitate post sprint demos to PO and business stakeholders
  • Help establish and grow a people first will deliver culture by inspiring, influencing, challenging, leading, supporting and nurturing colleagues, peers and the wider business
  • Support, nurture and enable continuous delivery at a sustainable pace of high-quality customer-centric products and services
  • Taking ownership for driving Continuous Improvement for self, team and wider business
  • Support the identify opportunities for innovation, research and development, incubating ideas and proofs-of-concept aligned to disruptive technologies and approaches

About You

You’ll be passionate about providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience for customers and will be flexible and adaptable in ways of working across the business, respecting the way products work in a highly agile environment. As part of a cross-functional IT and Business change team, you should be comfortable influencing, developing, challenging and motivating highly talented teams. In addition, you’ll have:

Essential Skills

  • Clear history of leading development teams
  • Experience in mentoring other team members
  • Experience liaising with stakeholders and non-technical staff members
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of programming experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of management/team lead experience
  • A solid understanding of Laravel/Cake, Golang, PHP5.4 and PHP7+, MySQL
  • Object-Oriented Programming and understanding of SOLID principles
  • Experienced with APIs (SOAP, JSON and ideally, gRPC)
  • Strong level of experience in working with MVC frameworks
  • Unit testing using industry-standard tools and packages
  • Understanding and knowledge of software design patterns
  • Experience with version control systems (GITLAB)
  • Strong root cause analysis skills
  •  Agile way of working experience (Scrum, eXtreme Programming)

Desirable Skills

  • Experience writing Go or C
  • Experience of CI and TDD
  • Experience using NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture
  • Understanding of CI /CD pipelines
  • Experience using containers and container orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (API GW, Lambda, DDB, SQS, ASG, ELB)
  • Experience with ELK Stack
  • T-SQL / Stored Procedures; experience in writing T-SQL, and stored procedures to interact with applications
  • Understanding of test approaches, including unit testing and integration testing
